			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Webster is a surname of Anglo-Saxon origin which is found chiefly in Yorkshire, Lancashire and the Midlands, and is a variant of the occupational name Webb, which was originally given to a weaver. The derivation is from the Olde English pre 7th Century &#8220;wevva&#8221;, developed into the Middle English &#8220;webbe&#8221;, a derivative of &#8220;wefan&#8221;, to weave. Job-descriptive surnames originally denoted the actual occupation of the namebearer, and later became hereditary.</p>
<p>Noah Webster 1758-1843 is an american lexicographer whose Spelling Book (1783) helped standardize American spelling. His major work, An American Dictionary of the English Language, was originally published in 1828.</p>
